KIRKWOOD, Pa. — Daniel Stoltzfus’ Amish mom always viewed him as her prodigal son, the only person of her 13 kids to own kept the spiritual order recognized for the modest gown, simple methods and culture that is insular.

Ultimately, police state, Stoltzfus along with his wife “gifted” their 14-year-old child to Kaplan them out financially — and apparently sent their nine younger daughters to live with the 51-year-old at his small home near Philadelphia after he helped.
